What are the rules in getting a japanese full/half sleeve tattoo also what are their origins?
I understand there are specific rules to follow in order to get a authentic japanese sleeve tattoo done, the location on the arm, the content of it etc. Also What does the sleeve represent? What do the differing things you can have represent, a koi, hanya mask etc. This is for my boyfriend who wishes to get one done and is researching the matter.
Very important. Make sure he finds a good artist that have good knowledge and experience on the tattoo.

The Koi fish as a symbol represents perseverance in the face of adversity and strength of character or purpose

I don't think there're rules on the length of the sleeves
