After the release of Dirty Work in 1986, the relationship between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards had collapsed inside and looked like the Rolling Stones are left to be. Jagger released his first solo album, Primitive Cool sophomore in 1987 and Richards, which was more than happy to be in a group, finally relented and released his first solo album, Talk Is Cheap, in 1988. Primitive Cool, in spite of being an ambitious launch, while trade Tanked Talk Is Cheap is quite successful, going gold in the United States.
The sound of Talk Is Cheap sounded more like the Stones as Primitive Cool or Dirty Work, and it was clear that the two men amounted more together than they were themselves. Add to that the induction of the rocks in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and showed signs anywhere, except when it called a "return" (despite the fact that Dirty Work was published only three years earlier) and reconciliation.
Steel Wheels is in the vein Tattoo You "in the sense that it is more straight rock that two undercover and Dirty Work, and once again shows the band as the final stage professional-rock (which contributed with the album with his first tour of any kind since 1982, much less a stadium tour). One thing missing from this album is that is very professional in the sense that the stones too want to look out, the Stones, but it is a matter of opinion.
That is straightforward rockers ( "Sad Sad Sad" "Mixed Emotions" Top Ten last of the Stones hit to date, and "Hold On To Your Hat"), Tales of Heartache two (Keith Richards' voice towers "Can Be Seen "and" Slipping Away "), ballads (" Blinded by Love "and" Almost Hear You Sigh "), sleazy, blues rockers (" terror " "Heart for Sale" and "Break the Spell"), Rockers with a social conscience ( "Rock and a Hard Place", the Stones' final Top 40 to the date) and the Eastern-tinged neo-psychedelia ( "Continental Drift") that serves as a tribute to the late Brian Jones, whose death was almost exactly twenty years before the release of Steel Wheels. All you want is here, and if this record demonstrates is that the stones will not disappear in the short term, anyway. Unfortunately, this is not true for bassist Bill Wyman has left the group in 1992 after thirty years, which makes steel wheels of his last studio album with the group.
